New Canaan Fun Facts
New Canaan is the only municipality on the Connecticut Panhandle that does not border the coast. Its proximity to New York City proved worthy of its own connection to the New Haven Railroad, being the only town to do so.
In 2011, CNN Money proclaimed New Canaan the eighth wealthiest town in the country (and first in the state), with a 2010 median household income of $231,957.
New Canaan is home to the Glass House, a glass-walled structure built in 1949 by architect Philip Johnson.
The Glass House or Johnson house, is a historic house museum at 798-856 Ponus Ridge Road in New Canaan, Connecticut. Built in 1949, it was designed by Philip Johnson as his own residence. It was an important and influential project for Johnson and for modern architecture. The building is an essay in minimal structure, geometry, proportion, and the effects of transparency and reflection. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1997. It is now owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and is open to the public for guided tours
